This course is intended to help biomedical and health researchers publish manuscripts in English. The course work is based on the text "Writing a Biomedical Research Paper", authored by Dr. Brian Budgell and published by Springer. Learners should refer to this text as they work through the modules below. Both the text and our learning resources are based on linguistic analyses of the biomedical and health literature. In that sense, our approach is quite different from most biomedical writing programs which perhaps do not distinguish between general English and biomedical language. Our own research confirms what we all know intuitively - that biomedical writing is quite different, with a complex vocabulary and its own conventions of grammar, usage and discourse.
The resources found on these pages could be used for self-directed learning or to supplement lectures and workshops. Internet based assignments and tests are available to students registered through our participating schools. In order to access tests, you must have a separate username and password, issued by your teacher. However, non-registered visitors are welcome to use the learning resources.
